Noël New York Clip-in How-To, Maintenance & FAQS

How to Install Your Clip-ins

Take your Clip-in and open clips by applying pressure on both ends of the clip. You should hear a pop and the comb part of the clip will open towards you.

Make a part where you want to place your Noël New York Clip-in by separating your hair with a comb or your fingers and secure extra hair with a clip. Tip: For fine hair, tease, braid, and/or spray the area where you will be placing the clip.

Place the Clip-ins directly on the parted hair line. Press firmly on both ends of each clip to secure. When you hear a pop, you know that it's secure.

Bring your clipped hair down and use a comb or brush to gently blend your Clip-ins and natural hair. Et voila! You're ready to go!

Frequently Asked Questions

Are NNY Clip-Ins real human hair?

Yes. All of our hair is 100% human.

What is the difference between NNY Standard and NNY Elite Clip-Ins?

NNY Standard Clip-ins are made of tangle-free straight textured hair. Because they are 100% human hair, they're able to withstand heat from a flat iron or blow dryer.

NNY Elite Clip-ins are custom made clip-ins; 100% human Remi hair imported from everywhere, India to Italy. With NNY Elite Clip-ins you are able to customize your texture, width, length, shades (choose form over 75 colors), and clip type (for fine or thick hair).

What is Remi hair?

Remi Cuticle hair is the ultimate luxury in hair. The healthiest hair (100% virgin) is hand picked strand by strand. This ensures all cuticles are laying in the same direction. NNY cuticle hair is superior quality, soft to the touch, long lasting and tangle free. The weft is sewn and bonded to help eliminate shedding.

Will hair extensions work with curly hair?

Yes. Try our NNY Elite line for custom textures.

This is my first time, what should I do first?

Use the color chart to choose a color that matches your own hair, the desired length of the Clip-in, and texture pattern (if you are choosing the Elite line). The most important part of hair extensions is the right hair. Call or go to our Appointments page to set up a consultation to confirm your texture match.

How do I pick the correct color?

Choose the color that matches your hair color from the middle of the shaft to the ends. Never buy hair that is the color of your new growth, as that is always darker. The blending of your hair on the bottom part is most important. You can visit our color chart by clicking here (*Colors may be represented slightly different on different computer monitors). If you have any questions, please call our staff and arrange a complimentary tele-consult during salon hours.

Does NNY Clip-ins have to match perfectly to your hair?

No. This is the beauty of clip-ins. They are set in between the different layers of your hair allowing a natural blending effect to take place. An exact match is typically not necessary. Also, a slightly different color of hair extensions will often add dimension to your hair giving you an exciting new look.

Can NNY Clip-ins be dyed or colored?

The Standard NNY Clip-ins are not recommended for color as they have been previously dyed. If you are planning to color the hair, we highly suggest using Clip-ins from the Elite line.

Can I achieve highlights and lowlights with clip on extensions?

Yes. NNY Clip-ins are also a great way to save your hair from the damage coloring can do. Choose 1' clip-ins for a pop of color or two 12" Clip-ins for a full set of highlights or lowlights. Clip them in, alternating the colors.

How many clip-ins and what sizes do I need?

Each person is different. Depending on your destined outcome, you will need anywhere from 2 Clip-ins, to add thickness, to 7 Clip-ins for fullness and length. If you are looking to add a little fullness, we would suggest one to two 12" clip-ins. If you are looking to achieve more than 3 inches in length, we would suggest two 5" clip-ins and three 12" clip-ins. For more info and advice please call NNY during salon hours to arrange a tele-consult with a stylist.

Can I cut my extensions?

Yes. You can and should cut the clip-ins. The hair tends to be a bit thinner towards the end of the extensions, just like real hair grows. We recommend giving them a trim or cut to blend properly with the style you have or wish to achieve. We STRONGLY urge that you take your new hair (and investment) to an extensionist to have hair added and blended properly.

Do NNY Clip-ins come with instructions?

Yes. Each set of NNY Clip-ins come with instructions in the satin pouch provided. The "how to" link on the product clip-in page will also provide you with a video on how to apply. Nothing can replace practice and hands on use, but our how to video will give you a great visual on how to apply the clip-ins.

How are the NNY Clip-ins attached to your head?

We use a polymer-covered clip with grip teeth and rubber bar to ensure a strong tight hold. The clips are aligned along a weft (material that holds the hair and clip) of extension and are spaced accordingly to ensure a proper clip to coverage ratio. These clips snap along your scalp and open and close like a comb barrette. Some may prefer to do a small braid and attach the clip to the braid.

Will clips damage my hair?

No. They should not damage your hair if proper care is taken. Please remember that the clips are metal and should be removed at night to prevent any heavy friction or pulling. Clip-ins are a great alternative to weaving, braiding and adhesive hair extensions, which can over time damage your hair. Clip-ins can give your head a rest and help healthy hair grow. It is essential to choose the right thickness clip. A fine clip can break thick hair. To ensure that you are choosing the correct clip, please call NNY during salon hours to arrange a tele-consult with a stylist.

Can I brush my hair with my extensions in?

Yes. Brush them lightly and carefully to avoid any friction or pulling on your natural hair.

Can I wear my extensions to bed?

We recommend taking them out before you go to bed. The great advantage to Clip-ins is being able to take them off at night to prevent heavy friction or pulling or tangling. Use the satin pouch provided for storing them at night.

How do I care for my new NNY Clip-ins?

A good way to think of your new Clip-ins is as an extension of your hair; if you use a lot of product or wear them often you should wash them at least once a week using a sulfate-free shampoo and moisturizing conditioner. Dry them on low heat and use a flat iron on a low heat setting. Always remember to store the Clip-ins in the satin pouch provided in order to ensure their long life.

What products should I use on my hair extensions?

Use products for dry hair and/or sulfate free. Dry shampoo is a great alternative to washing regularly.

Will hair extensions work with thin hair?

Yes, depending on the severity of the thinning. You will need enough hair to lie over the top of the weft and clip to cover it. In addition, backcombing and hair spraying the hair where you attach the clip helps make the clip even more secure.

Can I return NNY Clip-ins?

NNY Clip-ins are guaranteed for life! However, if for some reason you are unsatisfied we do accept returns granted that the hair is in its original condition and packaging. Please note there is a 20% restocking fee that will be deducted from the card provided pending the return.

Storing Your Clip-ins

We recommend that you remove your clip-ins on a nightly basis to ensure the health of your natural hair. Store your NNY Clip-ins in the satin pouch provided. The satin pouch will keep your clip-ins silky and prevent them from tangling. Be sure to brush the clip-in after each use in order to minimize tangling.

Maintaining Your Clip-ins

To prepare your clip-ins for washing, detangle the hair with a boar bristle hair brush, removing any knots. To facilitate washing, fold the weft in half, and repeat to create a thick ponytail. Hold the ponytail upright with one hand.

Use lukewarm water and a moisturizing, no-sulfate shampoo and stroke the hair gently from top to bottom. Repeat this motions several times, taking care not to rub, twist, or scrub the hair. Rinse the hair in the same manner, repeating for a second shampoo if needed. After shampooing, apply a conditioner to the clip-in.

Gently squeeze hair to remove excess water and pat dry with a towel. Lay the clip-in flat on the towl and let air dry, or spray a heat protector on the hair and blow dry on low to medium heat.

For best results, use a dry shampoo when possible. Excessive heat and improper conditioning will shorten the life of your clip-ins.
